Blueberries And Summertime

The Joy of Picking (and eating) Blueberries

Sometimes during the winter months, I find myself missing the smell of sunshine. Do you know what I mean? The smells and the sounds of summer, just begging you to be outside to soak it all in. I look forward to the warm weather and the time we can go pick blueberries!

Blueberries

Well, blueberry picking time had finally come! This is the time of year I had been looking forward to all year long. So early one morning, an elderly friend and I headed to our favorite farm for some blueberry picking. I think she wanted the company and I enjoyed being with her. The sun was just starting to come up. The birds were waking up, singing their cheerful songs and the heavy dew still clung to every bush. It was idyllic. It reminded me of everything I have to be thankful for. We enjoyed the small talk, as well as the blueberry picking and filling our buckets with the plump berries. So peaceful and so tranquil. I kept thinking of my favorite blueberry pie I would make when I got home. (Click here if you want the recipe).

By the time we had our buckets full of the sweet blueberries, the sun was letting us know it’s presence. We loaded up our prizes, paid the farmer, and headed back on our way home.

Going Down Memory Lane

The trip was full of conversations of “I know you’re too young to remember this”, “when I was a little girl”, and going down memory lane with funny stories from the past. That’s okay. Sometimes those stories need to be brought out into the sunlight, brushed off, and examined once more before we put them back in our memories to sleep until the next time.

I am reminded that we all need to slow down, visit with someone who has stories to tell and just enjoy the sweet, sweet, summertime. ❤
